High time to take action...

Hi friends, this is especially for students, schools, colleges, parents( who want to see their children responsible/active/sensitive and not just worthless book worms) i just want to share my opinion on saving our environment on environment day. Today morning while returning from Ernakulathappan temple i saw school students marching on the road with placards appealing to save environment. Nice to see activity happening around and i do appreciate the effort but is this the most effective way? why don't we just rethink on this age old ways of marches and whatever. Is this really what we need?
1. In this morning hour you create blocks and slow down the traffic which wastes a lot of petrol and also the air pollution created with it.
2. You use up a lot of paper. im not sure what you do with it. even if it is sent for recycling we still waste  a lot of energy.
3. Walking on the busy road at this hour makes you breathe a lot of polluted air coming fresh out of the vehicles which needless to say is not good for you.
4. You waste a lot of productive hour walking on the road and get tired unnecessarily( atleast according to me)... and of course a lot of other issues, let me not get into it . the point is why are we doing this? to create awareness right. but everyone today is aware of all these issues but no one is doing anything to make things better. So i believe what we need to do is to take action and not waste our time on all these ways like marching with placards and blah blah which i believe is expired and useless (sorry my opinion).

          Ok now coming to what can we do and what did i mean by action to be taken.

1. Every activity should start from us and own house and family. Please think how we are contributing in destroying the environment around us and start working on reducing that first. For example instead of throwing garbage on the road, work on recycling it inside our own house itself. There are many many things like reducing unnecessary travel in our cars. we can either walk or use public transport, save electricity ...etc
2. Plant trees, plants( flowering plants, ornamental plants, vegetables and fruits bearing plants and trees)in our own school/college/organisation/home premises and vow to maintain them by creating an accountable method. Imagine every school, college, house does something on this day. this itself will change a lot. As on 2014 kochi city has a population of 2.278 million and if everyone plants a tree or any small plant today what a huge difference it would make. I know thats not going to happen just a wish and a thought.
3. Spend the whole day studying on our present environmental challenges and discussing on what best can be done.
4. Organise speeches/seminars with eminent personalities on environment.
5. Interact with various NGO's who are working very hard to save our environment. understand what they are doing. if you agree with their works you can join hands with them.
6. There is a lot of environmental issues happening around us like the soil being affected because of extensive usage of pesticides and insecticides, pollution in our backwaters and its effect on the marine life( we can take samples of the water and test it with the help of your chemistry teacher or in some lab with experts)...etc.. today i read in the newspaper that the mangrove forest is reducing in kochi and some people are working on destroying it for their vested interest... there are many things we can research on and create a report. We can meet the concerned authorities and complain the same and follow up on what action is being taken. publish your report on social media, blog etc.. get more people to know about it..
7. Start a club on nature /environment in schools/colleges/organisation/residents associations
8. Schools and colleges can distribute saplings to students to plant in their houses according to their interest and needs.
9. So much of terrace space is going waste in our cities. imagine every terrace goes green in our cities, it will contribute so much on improving the environment we live in. there are many things that you can grow in your terrace and trust me its a wonderful hobby which will energise your body and mind which in turn will boost your performance at work and thus your career... think about it..don't waste money on some stupid gym.( working out in an air conditioned gym is very very harmful, mind u)

    I can just go on and on about what all we can do but i guess i will leave it at just invoking a thought process and leave it to your imagination to take action on the same.. please don't tell me where do we have time to do this. Everyone has time to do everything in this world. we just need to manage and prioritise and we better prioritise environment now before it becomes too late...
    please we need some positive action... thanks for reading this and tolerating me..

Looking at our political attitude and my take on it....

Stylish PM... wonder why some people have a problem with that... whats the point to be meagre in dressing and doing all nonsense behind doors... and what is wrong to strengthen world ties and reaching out to the huge NRI population of our country who although contributing largely to our economy are usually neglected.. Unlike some people taking breaks and running away to unknown foreign destinations we see our PM working full time and i find the allegation that he is doing a lot of foreign trips as stupid, senseless and baseless. I actually feel insulted by these polititians who make such silly remarks, do they consider us idiots to believe what they say blindly. Sitting at the topmost chair of a country with the second largest population in the world with the largest diversity and democracy demands super powers... We gave this govt a huge mandate and i believe we need to give it support, time and a little understanding for our own good..yes we should criticise and strongly oppose what is wrong but not before understanding it fully by ourselves using our intellect and common sense, not blindly listening to the highly biased media that we have today..
                          I very well know and understand we are a politically committed state and i have seen a lot of our people who are blindly following political parties rather than thinking about themselves and the society. My friends warned me from making any political comments as this is a very sensitive topic which should not be touched by film personalities as they will be targeted by political groups.... Should i be afraid and stay away... i have seen the worst of my life what more... I dont believe in saying some emotionally driven statements which would be of no use to anyone but instead i just want to put forward my thoughts in front of all of you to think about and have a healthy discussion in a healthy platform.... I am really curious to know how the new generation of kerala looks into politics and where we are moving to...I am sorry i dont follow any political party infact i feel the very concept of party politics needs to be reworked as this system of party politics is forcing polititians to think more about the party rather than the job assigned to them..
                           Now coming to our own state i was very happy and thrilled hearing we too will have metro trains running in our state and like me all the excited people of kochi were ready to adjust with all the difficulties associated with it. But looking at the snail pace at which the work is progressing we are loosing our patience... Even after getting a wonderful leader like E. Sreedharan who finished much tougher jobs at record breaking speed we are unable to do anything.. who is to be blamed, is it just the political system alone or are'nt we as people of the state also responsible for this.. We pushed this great man to a level where he had to say that he will never work in kerala again.. what made him say that.. Now comes the ever eluding vizhinjam project which will contribute a lot to our states economic development.... thought it would at last see light but here again comes controversies and issues.. How long will we have to wait for it...Thanks to the CM, he recently issued a statement that all these controversies around the govt will not be a hindrance to the development activities...ooops i was actually wondering amidst solar, bar license and all the infinite number of controversies where do our leaders get time for anything at all... i was seriously worried...Long back i remember Dr Munner had proposed the super highway project which we as people crucified it putting forward all baseless, senseless issues... Today we are regretting it, it would have boosted our economy by developing tourism and all the industries here giving lakhs of people better jobs and better living...it would have saved a lot of time for the commuters and the strain and money they spend on fuel... Im sure many will shout at me saying what about the people who will loose land and house.. dear friends im going to loose my tharavaad in Kannur on which we have a lot of emotional attachment and sweet memories due to road widening. this is a sacrifice that we have to do for the larger good of the society... So many such instances where although being such a literate and a powerfully informed people we fall behind other states w.r.t development..  
                           We are totally dependent on Our hard working NRI's and NRK's working in other states to send money back to us for our daily bread... What a sorry State... isn't it time to rethink our political attitude and do necessary change in ourselves ... should'nt we start from within ourselves rather than finding faults outside..Is'nt it high time, we as the so called new generation rethink on our approach to the world around us....  im sure 90% of people reading this will have a "pucham , parihasam " attitude to this and would think what the hell is an actor doing... don't i have any other job?...Take my word dear friends all the film personalities who although wants to do something against the negatives in the society and do some good work for the society keep quiet because of this attitude of yours....The respect and understanding we film personalities enjoy in other states are million times better than in our own land kerala. As the saying goes the biggest anti social elements are not the criminals but the so called good people who keep quiet at all the negatives things around them thinking it is none of my business.... with this note i stop for the day as my dad is waiting to take me to the hospital...will surely like to know your feedback and have a healthy open minded discussion on the same.... 

My Mother

With my amma in a tea shop in parunthanpara, pereemedu...

If I start writing about my mom, it will be difficult to make it a brief one and I'm sure it is the same with all of you.. We all love our Amma so much… the very first song that I got to perform was "enn amme onnu kaanaan" from the film nammal and will remain my fav song . She is my pillar of strength, my inspiration, my best friend, my teacher …everything . Infact it is the same for everyone in our family.. She has the most amazing attitude I have ever seen, to be able to see humour at even the toughest of situation thus making it light as if it was nothing.. When I was in the operation theatre, people told her that i might not be able to talk properly and will have deformation in the face , she laughed at them and said anyway he doesn't speak clearly and I'm sure this will make him speak better and the surgery might make him different but he will look better than he is now... Such is her positive attitude and she told me this and laughed.. This made me so light and have a very positive approach to the situation I was in . She taught me that everything is in our mind and a positive outlook will keep attracting positive things in life and one would be able to find joy in every moment of life..
My love for food and cooking originates from the awesome delicacies she prepares. when I had to live alone in Delhi I missed her food so much I tried to replicate the food she makes by starting to cook. My fav has always been the aromatic masala dosa she prepares and I sit very close to the tava to get the hot and crispy masala dosa with butter just starting to melt. I could never count how much I eat and she has to literally drive me out of the kitchen so that others in the family get their share of breakfast….
She is an adventurous woman and loves to travel.. Im so happy that I could take her to many places and there is a lot more places to take her, one of it being kailash-manasarovar which I will surely take her next year. Every time i get to travel, the first person with whom i would like to share my travel experience is my mother as she passionately hears and enjoys all the intricate details of the journey. This drives me to see more, experience more absorbing all the minute details of the journey with an eye of a good traveller....

We truly and sincerley praise them for their services to the society but do we know at what conditions are they giving their more than 100% to us. They are over worked but underpaid nightingales who deserve much more. I once asked them "what prompts them to leave India and live away from their families and loved ones". the answers that i got from them are quiet sad. im quoting from various news paper articles about the issues faced by them..
According to the Indian Nursing Council, there are 20 lakh registered nurses in India of which 18 lakh are in Kerala. Veteran nurses say 75% of all Malayalees have at least one nurse in their family. Both veterans and freshers say a Kerala nurse struggles under the pressure of ‘being good,’ and ‘obedient’ — on the job and for the family — without complaints, more than her counterparts from elsewhere in India. “No matter the risk, the lack of pay… once a nurse from Kerala is on duty, she’ll be fully on,” says professor Ambika CV, principal at the Government College of Nursing, Kottayam. “Kerala is known for giving the finest theoretical and practical training to its nurses but there is no value for their specialisation,” says Mary Joseph, a teacher. Several private nursing institutions “sign on staff nurses without an appointment letter, pay them no salary for the first one-and-a-half years on the grounds of enabling them to gain experience, and demand resignations if they get pregnant,”
Quoting from 'The Hindu'...A staff nurse in Vani Vilas Hospital was infected with a life-threatening disease after she accidently pricked herself while assisting a doctor during an emergency operation. She has since been under treatment.this is not an isolated case, mind you.Hundreds of nurses working across the State, especially in government hospitals, risk catching serious infections while handling patients. A common occurrence in labour rooms is amniotic fluid splashing on them, even as the nurses are unaware if the patient has any infection. And yet, nurses are not paid any risk allowance and their medical allowance is a meagre Rs. 100 a month.Nurses in government hospitals are overworked and underpaid. Although these hospitals have been upgraded with more beds and other facilities for patients, the nurse-patient ratio has not improved. In fact, of the 11,500 sanctioned posts, more than 5,000 posts are vacant in government hospitals. This does not conform to the Indian Nursing Council norms which stipulate a nurse-patient ratio of 1:4.According to Vijay Naik, general secretary of Karnataka State Nurses’ Association, the average nurse-patient ratio across the State is 1:140. “Although nurses have been hired on contract, the situation is bad because their salaries are very low. The last recruitment was done in 2010,” he said.

We would meet for a month in a year. My kids are at boarding school in Kerala. Sometimes I cry and I cannot stop. When people ask if we wouldn’t be happier staying together, I’m stumped. Also they have to take huge loans to pay the recruitment agencies which they hope to repay once they get a job abroad but is there any job security.... the pressure on them is really high. they say working conditions and the respect they get abroad is far more from what they get here.. here apart from the torture of hospital management even patients treat them badly. i remember one occassion where i myself lost my temper under the pressure that i was in which the nurse understood and handled it with immense care for me. i was scared but that really doesnt justify my behaviour which i regret till today. there were moments where i almost gave up going through the after effects of my surgery but she stood there smiling at me as if telling me this is normal dont worry u will sail through this safely, im there for you. she stood there infront of my bed all through the night watching me for the slightest of help that i may need.... she assures my family not to worry and sleep peacefully as she is there taking care of me...really wanted to wish them on mothers day as they took care of me like a mother but decided not to post on FB knowing the wonderful attitude of certain malayalees "Pucham, Parihasam" which i may not be able to tolerate and you will have to see me loosing temper and literally raping whoever it was...i wish them all from my heart... love you all
